Walking

This part of Mid-Wales is a hill-walkers paradise with access to hidden valleys, fast flowing rivers, and summits with fabulous views. For the less ambitious, the two mile round trip to the village shop is a very pretty walk.

Mountain-Biking

This area has benefited from recent investment in a selection of off-road biking routes, graded like ski-slopes and backed up by local bike rental/repair outlets . Less demanding family-friendly cycle routes are also available.
The 3 waymarked routes of Machynlleth use rights of way which can take you from quiet country roads, through rushing river valleys and up onto technical mountainside trails and singletrack depending on your enthusiasm. The surrounding forestry also gives plenty of unwaymarked technical freeride fun.
The Forest Enterprise centre at Coed-y-Brenin is home to fantastic purpose built, all weather singletrack. The forestry centre at Nant-yr-Arian combines new sections of handbuilt singletrack, with longer natural routes. These use fire road and natural high mountain trails to create challenging often technical routes combining stunning scenery and strenuous riding.

Coastal Sports

The nearby sandy beach of Borth, linking with the expanse of dunes and beaches at Ynyslas, are ideal for sunbathing, swimming and coastal sports. Surfing, windsurfing and kite-surfing are all popular on this beach, as are land-based beach sports such as kite-buggying and land-yatching. The waters of the Dovey Estuary, accessible from the beaches of Ynyslas and Aberdovey, also provide excellent watersports facilities and are popular with windsurfers, kitesurfers, water-skiers and jet-skiers.

Bird-Watching

Ty'r Beudy within walking distance of Ynys-hir, the RSPB nature reserve, and some of their land borders ours. Red kites and buzzards compete for airspace in the valley and a wide variety of smaller birdlife make up the dawn chorus, with woodpeckers providing excellent percussion!

Horse-Riding

There are several riding centres in the area, some offering livery as well as lessons. They are all sited in locations ideal for hacking whether for a couple of hours or a whole day.

Painting

This part of the Dyfi valley is known as 'Artist's Valley' and provides much inspiration to landscape painters, with the added bonus of complete tranquillity.

Golf

There are several excellent golf courses within easy reach of Ty'r Beudy. Borth and Ynyslas Golf course boasts an 18 hole championship links golf course. Aberystwyth has an 18 hole course overlooking the town and Machynlleth also has a 9 hole golf course.
