The Surrounding AreaTy'r Beudy is nestled in a secluded hillside location, yet is within easy reach of Aberystwyth and Machynlleth . Provisions can be bought locally in the village of Furnace and in Eglwys Fach at the end of the lane are bus stops, mail and postboxes . Aberystwyth is a busy coastal university town 13 miles to the south of Ty'r Beudy . It has all the major retailers as well as a selection of independent craft, fashion and specialist stores, and a very wide range of pubs and restaurants. It is also home to the National Library of Wales, a cliff railway and observatory and the impressive architecture of the old university college on the sea front. Aberystwyth has an attractive promenade and both of its beaches have been presented with the Blue Flag award for 2003. Monday is market day. Machynlleth, 7 miles to the North of Ty'r Beudy , is the ancient Capital of Wales. It is smaller than Aberystwyth but equally attractive. It has a wide range of shops, amenities and tourist attractions including a weekly market, held on Wednesdays. There are several pubs serving food, and an excellent Indian restaurant. The hills and countryside around offer peace, seclusion and stunning views at all times of the year and the heights of Snowdonia National Park are just a short drive away. Local beaches are beautiful, but rarely busy. The South and North beaches in Aberystwyth, Clarach Bay and the four miles of sand in nearby Borth have all been awarded Blue Flags for 2003. |
